Art institute celebrates 60th birthday
The Shanghai Theater Academy celebrated its 60th anniversary yesterday.
One of the country's prestigious art institutes held a tour for alumni that included veteran filmmakers, actors, anchors and dramatists. They were also invited to a celebration gala at the school's Experimental Theater.
"I am so excited to be here again on such a special day," said Xi Meijuan, an alumna and vice president of the National Association of Performing Arts. "This sacred palace of art also reminds me of my responsibility as a performer."
Dong Qing, a TV anchor who hosted the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, said the academy taught her to keep learning throughout life.
The academy was founded by famous artists Gu Zhongyi, Li Jianwu, Wu Renzhi and Xiong Foxi on December 1, 1945.
The academy's President Rong Guangrun said: "In the past 60 years we have nurtured numerous artists. It is an honorable mission for our faculty."
